Annaholty & Drominboy Bog Paintings

The paintings on this page are all 12 x 12 inches. Oil on box canvas.

They were painted between March and April of 2021

Its hard to ignore the glorious views when travelling through Annaholty and Drominboy Bogs via the M7 between Limerick City and Applegreen at BirdhilI. I find the bog very atmospheric and wanted to capture that so I set out to take reference photos to paint back at the studio.

The bog itself is located mainly in Co Tipperary and a portion is in Co Limerick. It is close by to Castleconnell.

The colours on this bog change dramatically with the seasons. From Rusty browns and burnt sienna, deep purples and blues, yellow ochre and not forgetting lime greens in springtime. It is a precious area for people who journey there from Limerick City and Co Tipp to walk and breathe in the fresh air. it was also a refuge for many to walk there during the lockdowns!
